Perdue re-elected as West Virginia treasurer

CHARLESTON — West Virginia Treasurer John Perdue has won re-election.

Perdue defeated Republican Senate Minority Leader Mike Hall on Tuesday.

Perdue was first elected to the office in 1996. The Democrat has highlighted such additional efforts as a college savings plan and a program that tries to reunite people with such unclaimed property as safe deposit boxes, bank accounts and insurance policy proceeds.

Hall is a financial adviser from Putnam County. He questioned Perdue’s focus on his office’s responsibilities while campaigning, often bringing up a recent federal investigation into a housing development deal involving land owned by Perdue’s family.

Perdue has said he did nothing wrong. No criminal charges have resulted from the investigation.
