Aaric Murray to leave WVU basketball team

MORGANTOWN — Aaric Murray, who was supposed to be the experienced inside cornerstone of the West Virginia University basketball team next season, is leaving the team.

“We came to a mutual agreement that it would be in his best interest to finish his collegiate career somewhere else,” Coach Bob Huggins said in a mid-morning release.

Murray averaged 8.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game last year as a junior. The 6-11 center had transferred to WVU from LaSalle and sat out a season.

During that season he was arrested for marijuana use.

Murray will graduate in May and is eligible to play immediately if he transfers.

His departure leaves a large void in the Mountaineers rebounding and defense. Murray led WVU in both departments last season.
