Miles granted release from WVU

MORGANTOWN — Junior forward Keaton Miles, who suffered through a disappointing sophomore season as West Virginia fell below .500, has been granted a release and will seek a transfer, according to published reports.

He is the fourth player to transfer since last season.

Miles said he made the decision after consultation with the coaching staff and his family in Dallas, Texas.

Miles’ departure leaves guard Gary Browne as the only member of the 2011 recruiting class on campus.

Prior to Miles’ departure, Tommie McCune, Pat Forsythe, Aaron Brown and Jabarie Hinds all transferred from the program, while Dominique Rutledge — a junior college transfer — graduated.

“I’m always going to be a Mountaineer,” Miles told West Virginia Illustrated. “It’s really, really tough. I love it here. The relationships that I have here, I’ll never forget. I plan to come back here and visit after my basketball career or just to show support. I support the community here and they were an essential part of me growing up as a man and learning and interacting with people.”
