Flashback Friday, June 20: Haller’s sectional performance one for the ages

FAIRMONT — Age is only a number.

But along with her sophomore standing, North Marion’s Megan Haller provided some other numbers which stood out this past basketball season.

As her North Marion Lady Huskies were making a run into the West Virginia girls’ basketball state tournament, Haller looked like a seasoned vet rather than a second-year high school player.

The shooting guard provided a 16-point performance in a win over East Fairmont in the team’s first sectional matchup and then turned around to score 22 points, albeit in a loss, against Fairmont Senior in the sectional championship.

Despite falling short of a sectional crown, the Huskies went on to finish second in the region and advance to the state tournament before falling to Keyser in the first round of play in Charleston.

Haller, though, provided solid performances all season and was known for her shooting abilities in every game, sometimes scoring at will.

If she was hitting, North Marion was likely in a good position to win.

For her standout performance during the sectional tournament this past basketball season, Haller is this week’s Times West Virginian Flashback Friday player of the week and will advance to the next round of voting to be held later this summer.
