Many in county still without power

FAIRMONT — As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, 1,042 Marion County MonPower customers remained without power. The largest number of customers without power in the county were 308 in Fairmont, 293 in Rivesville, 175 in Worthington and 129 in Farmington.

After severe thunderstorm system blew through the area Tuesday afternoon, over 1,700 Marion County customers lost power. Though the storm only lasted around 30 minutes, Marion County 911 received 21 reports of downed trees and nine reports of downed wires.

According to a release from MonPower Wednesday, approximately 71,000 customers in West Virginia lost power due to aftermath from the storm. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, 29,114 customers remained without power.

“Based on the severity of the damage, the company expects this to be a multi-day outage event,” the release stated.
