News from the Town:
A reminder that the town celebration will be held on Saturday, June 29 behind the town hall. There will be food, vendors, bouncy house, cake walk, games for the kids, raffle baskets, music and fireworks.
I hope everyone will bring a chair and come enjoy the small-town fun.
Paw Paw Fair
In case you didn’t know, the Paw Paw Fair starts Tuesday, June 25. If anyone is interested in being in the parade, give Josh Speicher a call at (304) 376-5810.
The parade lineup starts at 5 p.m. with the actual parade beginning at 6 p.m. I hope to see a lot of participants.
The Rivesville Woman’s Christian Temperance Union met for the regular monthly meeting at the home of Doris Christy.
Mrs. Christy called the meeting to order and led the group in singing the theme song. Devotional thoughts were given by co-directors of the Christian Outreach department Janie Lucas and Anita Green, while Kathleen Johnson presented the program flag etiquette.
The many activities completed were reported. Three Walmart gift cards were donated to Marion County Project Graduation and Merry Lee Powell volunteered as a chaperone for the night. Donations of money or goods were donated to The Arbor Day Foundation, Hope Inc., and the women and children residing at the Union Mission.
Flowers were also sent to Anna Davis in observance of Jennie Cassaday Day. PSAs will be given to a local radio station.
The coloring contest, sponsored by the Rivesville WCTU, was completed in nine schools in Marion County. Winners in grades K-3 at Rivesville Elem/Middle were:

If you’re looking for something to do, there is a lot going on in Grant Town today.
They’re are starting off their day with the community wide yard sale which begins at 7 a.m. to TBA. Following the yard sale, the Grant Town VFD will hold an open house from 2 p.m. until dark. The BrotherHood band will be preforming. The movie “Firehouse Dog” will be shown at the Grant Town Helicopter pad beginning at dark.
Sounds like it will be a busy place in Grant Town today, so I hope folks will go out and enjoy the activities.
6/29: Grant Town clean-up from 6:30 a.m. to Noon. I will have more info soon.
7/6: Marion County Extention service is celebrating 100 years of 4-H camping in Marion County. There will be a one day reunion for 4-H alumni, supporters, spouses, and current members.
If interested in attending, call 304-367-2772, or visit Facebook under CampMar-Mac Association. The fee is $20 and will include lunch and dinner.
Registration is from 9-10 a.m.
7/26-7/27: Rivesville Homecoming Reunion. Just a reminder that you don’t have to be a graduate of Rivesville High and everyone is welcome to attend. This is a two-day event, with the first night including a weiner roast and a covered dish dinner while the second day is a catered meal by Frank’s Place. $11 covers both events. Both events will be held at the old high school.

A very special Happy Birthday goes out to my sweet granddaughter Madison Smith, who celebrated her seventh birthday yesterday. It just seems like yesterday that I was announcing to everyone in this column that I was getting a granddaughter. I amaze in watching her learn and grow. She has such a kind heart, and I hope she never loses that.
Happy Birthday Madi! Gigi loves you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!
