We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

These words from our Declaration of Independence eloquently state our declaration of intention and purpose as a new nation. Each July 4th, we remember with pride and reverence the birth and establishment of this document.

The dedication, intelligence, and love of freedom that consumed our founders is self-evident in every word of this declaration. The pursuit of freedom, knowing the eventual cost, did not dissuade them nor cool their burning desire to break the yoke of dependency and oppression. Their foresight still amazes in this 21st century.

This exacting declaration gave immediate mental freedom to the authors and their fellow citizens. But the implementation of the stated independence and the freedom it brought must be earned, performed, and protected on a daily basis.

Responsibility, freedom’s eternal partner, is a taskmaster of unrelenting vigilance. The founders of our nation set a path of expectancy and honor that has proven a worthy road map to all that is good and noble in our American system.

Though truly independent, America was and continues to be a nation of protection, assistance, and compassion to the entire world. We have gone to war to bring freedom to others. We have shared our wealth with nations of lesser means. We have given our military youth, our most prized and valued resource, in the freeing of oppressed people around the world. We have become, often to our regret, the policemen of the world.

The implementation of this document has not been always easy or completely achieved. But step by step we have endeavored to create an atmosphere of equality for all. We are not perfect, nor have we fully acquired the aspired entirety of their declaration. But through the blessings of our Creator, we stand as the most powerful and compassionate nation of our time. Much of the jealousy toward America is brought about from the unequaled lifestyle of our people.

On this July 4th, 2019, we should look back to the founders and their Declaration of Independence. The word “freedom” is an official proclamation of the original document. In unanimity of purpose, dedication, and participation, we Americans shall continue to follow the pattern of a spirit of freedom with the determination of purpose this declaration so rightfully establishes.

We must remain vigilant in the teaching of American history at all ages in our homes and educational system. The forgotten mistakes of our history guarantee our blundering repetition of them. Every home should endeavor to instill patriotism that will be forwarded and duplicated with each ensuing generation.

My country ‘tis of Thee, Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims’ pride, From ev’ry mountainside, Let freedom ring.

Our Fathers’ God to Thee, Author of liberty, To Thee we sing. Long may our land be bright, With freedom’s holy light; Protect us by Thy might, Great God our King.

With family picnics and fireworks of celebration, shall we take a moment to whisper a prayer of gratitude for those founders and their astonishing and ever-continuing Declaration of Independence. May their example of courage, patriotism, and determination be our daily pledge and endeavor.
