Good morning Mannington!

As this is written, it has turned very cold, winter has started and yes, it is expected. If you have been downtown, one bunch of decorations is coming down and bright lights are going up. If the weather is nice, put up Christmas lights outside. Holidays and the end of 2019 are just around the corner. Hope everyone has a great week, stay safe.

Veteran’s Tribute

All area veterans are invited to attend the Mannington Church of the Nazarene as veterans are recognized during the morning church service. This tribute to veterans is held annually and is for any service person in the area. The service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene on Route 250 near Mannington. All are welcome to attend.

Veterans’ Day Breakfast

The City of Mannington is sponsoring the Annual Veterans’ Day Breakfast on Monday, Nov. 11 between the hours of 8:30 and 10 a.m. at the North Marion Senior Center. The menu will include scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and biscuits with sausage gravy, vanilla and red velvet waffles, syrup, honey and jelly, butter, coffee, water and orange juice. All veterans and their families are invited to attend.

Greenery Bazaar

The West Augusta Historical Society will host the annual Greenery Bazaar on Dec. 6-8. The times for Friday and Saturday are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 8 from 1-4 p.m. If you are interested in purchasing a grave blanket please call Cordelia Spencer to pre-order at (304) 986-3144. Make plans to stop by the Wilson School Museum and come around to the Log Cabin to see the beautiful items for sale. They will have many items that are handmade and beautiful decorations made from live pine to brighten your home during the Christmas season. They will also hold a yard sale at this time.

Historical Society Thanksgiving Dinner

The West Augusta Historical Society will hold its Thanksgiving Dinner on Monday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Wilson School Museum. The meat will be provided but please bring a covered dish consisting of a side, salad or dessert. Following the dinner at 7 p.m. the election of officers for the next two years will be held.

Order Cookie Trays

Help out one of town’s organizations and save yourself some time. Yes, take advantage of cookies prepared by the West Augusta Historical Society. They are taking orders for the cookies until the Greenery Bazaar. They will have samples of the cookies that will be available during the Bazaar at the Log Cabin. The cost will be $25 for a large tray. They will need your name and money by the end of the Bazaar and the date for delivery will be announced.

Trash Pick-Up

The Thanksgiving Schedule for Mannington Refuse is as follows: Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26 will be picked up on Monday, Nov. 25. Wednesday, Nov. 27 and Thursday, Nov. 28 will be picked up on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Friday, Nov. 29 will be picked up on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Mannington Refuse will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. Wishing all hunters, a successful and safe hunting season. Happy Thanksgiving to their customers and everyone.

Shop Small Saturday

Start saving some money, the change from your pocket each day, or a certain amount, to use on Shop Small Saturday. This event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30, the day after Black Friday. Plan to shop at the many businesses in Mannington. This is a time to support business in our town. Businesses will have specials and you just might find a special gift for the holiday or something just for you.
