The Marion County Board of Education voted against hiring Andrew Neptune as an administrative assistant during its meeting Monday night.

Superintendent of Schools Gary Price had recommended that Neptune, who is currently principal at Jayenne Elementary School, be reassigned to the position of administrative assistant for the Central Office. The recommendation received a 2-3 vote from the board and did not pass.

Janet Crescenzi and the Rev. James Saunders voted in favor of the recommendation, and Mary “Sis” Murray, Richard Pellegrin and Dr. Babette Simms voted against it.

“It just didn’t pass,” said Simms, who is president of the board. “It’s one of those difficult decisions.”
