The Marion County East-West Stadium turf committee has taken on a second fund-raising project.

A project to “Tile the Tunnel” in the entrance way of the facility was announced on Sept. 8. That is a project where community-funded tiles are being sold that will be placed in the entrance tunnel to the stadium with personalized “imprints.”

Marion County athletic director Frank Moore has now announced a “Frame the Stadium” business advertisement project that will be operated on a three-year plan. This type of fence advertising is similar to that at the “A” Field at Mary Lou Retton Youth Park.

“We’ve already sold 10 of the frame ads,” Moore said. “We hope to have 30 up by the time the year is out. That’s our goal.”

These advertisements are 4x8-foot, single-faced scooter boards with a white background. The cost is $500 for the first year and $300 for the second and third years.

Moore is hopeful that the “Frame the Stadium” stadium project will “take off” in the business community.

“We’re hoping this will generate some money, and we’re hoping the tiles will take off,” he said. “This can really be an exciting project. There could be a lot of history in that tunnel if the coaches and principals purchase tiles as well as many of the athletes who have played at the stadium in the past.”

And he noted that people who are “just fans” can purchase tiles as well. He is hopeful that many will contain logos of businesses and schools.

The tile price begins at $50 for those that are 4x4 inch. Those that are 12x12 are $500.

People seeking to purchase tiles may make checks payable to the Marion County Schools East-West Stadium Fund, 200 Gaston Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554.

People with questions may call Moore at 367-2100 Extension 26, Tom Dragich at 363-6656, or Bob Brookover at 363-2038.
