Rick Humphreys, the former Human Resources director for the Marion County Commission who was suing the entity for breach of contract, has been awarded $174,000 by a six-member jury of three men and three women.
The jury found in his favor after deliberating for two hours and 40 minutes Friday, awarding him $90,000 for lost past wages and benefits and $84,000 for lost future wages, benefits and pension, for a total of $174,000.
But the jury declined to award him anything for “annoyances and inconveniences.”
The two-day civil jury trial concluded Friday in Marion Circuit Division I Courtroom before senior status Judge Thomas W. Steptoe Jr. Dave Goddard and Eddie Wagoner represented Humphreys, plaintiff. Wendy Greve represented the Marion County Commission.
In January 2008, Humphreys was hired as the first-ever Human Resources director for the Marion County Commission. His department had a budget of nearly $100,000; his salary was about $60,000.
