The figures were difficult for the Marion County Commission to overlook.
According to reports presented by the Valley Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday morning during the commission meeting, there were 281 accidents along Interstate 79 last year. And by Jan. 26 this year, there had been 20 accidents reported.
One of those accidents required the use of the Jaws of Life, which presented a challenge to the fire department. The metal now being installed in newer luxury cars, including some American cars, is four times stronger than the steel used in the past, Chief Donald Mundell said.
