The Mon YouthBuild may be facing closure due to a lack of funding, but it does not intend to give up and die that easily.

“We’re going to see Mon YouthBuild get back on its feet,” said Rick Brown, director of the program, to an assembly of alumni at a reunion on Thursday night.

Mon YouthBuild is a local program that works with at-risk youth and high school dropouts to help them get their GEDs and provide them with relevant work experience to work in construction or other building careers.

Funded by the Department of Labor, the program was affected by massive budget cuts on the federal level, which reduced the number of YouthBuild programs funded from 226 nationwide to only 75.
