HUNTINGTON – Five Marion County tudents were named to the spring 2019 Dean’s List at Marshall University.

To make the Dean’s List, students must have a 3.3 or above grade point average for a minimum of 12 hours. Marshall has 2,843 students included on the Dean’s List for spring. Students who requested their names not be published are excluded from the list.

Kaitlyn B. Bean, Emily K. Hershberger, Allyson N. Perry and Cailey, all of Fairmont, D. Collins of Metz and Haleigh R. McDougal of Carolina were named to the Dean’s List.

Gilbert to lead Pierpont Community & Technical College’s aerospace center

FAIRMONT – Pierpont Community & Technical College has named Brad Gilbert interim director of the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center located near Bridgeport. Established in 1993 to support West Virginia’s growing aerospace industry, the NAEC houses Pierpont’s aviation maintenance technology program.

“We are very fortunate Dr. Gilbert has accepted the role of interim director of our aviation center. We look forward to our aviation programs reaching new levels of excellence,” said Johnny Moore, president of Pierpont Community & Technical College.

Gilbert is a founding faculty member of Pierpont’s aviation program. He arrived at Pierpont with prior aircraft maintenance and management experience having worked with three major airlines. In addition, he holds a master’s degree in business administration and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction.

From a technical standpoint, Gilbert is also an FAA certified airframe and power plant technician with inspection authorization, a private pilot, and an FAA designated mechanic examiner.

With more than 40 years of aircraft maintenance experience and 28 years teaching in higher education and workforce training, Gilbert brings a unique set of qualifications to his new role as director of the National Aerospace Education Center. “We fully expect Dr. Gilbert to carry on the successes of the center and are enthusiastic about the potential this exciting program offers north central West Virginia,” said Michael P. Waide, provost and vice president of academic affairs for Pierpont Community & Technical College.
