FAIRMONT — A 27-year-old Baxter man is accused of entering through the window of a home and punching a man in a wheelchair on Sept. 22 in Rivesville.

The complaint states that Richard Eugene Wells III of 143 Caperton St., Baxter, is charged with felony burglary and entry of a dwelling or outhouse. Court records show he is being held in the North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $100,012 bail.

According to the court papers, a West Virginia State Police senior trooper responded at approximately 8:40 p.m. Sept. 22 to a battery complaint at an address on Burke Street in Rivesville.

The victim told the trooper that Wells came through the living room window of the residence, walked up to him and punched him with a closed fist, in his right ear, while he was sitting in his wheelchair.

The officer said he saw the front window screen layng on a chair on the porch.

Police gave no motive for the incident.
