FAIRMONT — A 51-year-old homeless man was booked at the North Central Regional Jail Sept. 30 after being charged with two counts of failure to register as sex offender for the period of July 19 through Sept. 4 in Fairmont.

A criminal complaint states that Gregory Linn Wilt faces the felony offenses.

According to the court papers, a West Virginia State Police corporal went to an address Sept. 4 at Rhea Terrace in Fairmont to verify Wilt’s physical address he has listed on his sex offender registry. The officer learned from the neighbors that Wilt had been evicted from the property more than a month before, the complaint states.

The property management company manager confirmed Wilt was evicted and escorted from the property on July 3, and was known to be living under the Mid City Bridge in Fairmont, according to police.

Wilt is required by state law to register as a sex offender because of a 2002 conviction of possession of material visually portraying a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

“Since the defendant’s eviction from Rhea Terrace on July 3, 2019, the defendant (Wilt) has failed to report to the WV State Police Fairmont Detachment to make any updated changes, specifically physical address (Count 1) and mailing address (Count 2) on his Sex Offender Registry as required within 10 business days,” the complaint states.

Court records show Wilt is in North Central Regional Jail in lieu of $5,012 bail.
