FAIRMONT — Police say a 60-year-old White Hall man forced a woman into a vehicle at gunpoint Sept. 18 in the parking lot of Walmart, according to a criminal complaint signed Oct. 30 and released Friday in Marion County Magistrate Court.

According to the complaint, Anthony Arthur Baxter of 42 Spencer Dr., White Hall, faces one count of felony kidnapping.

Police said the victim was putting items in her vehicle in the parking lot of Walmart when Baxter approached her with a gun and forced her into the back seat. Baxter told the woman “that this is his only way out right now and sorry she had to be a part of it.”

The complaint states that the victim said Baxter pointed the gun in the woman’s face. She told him that “he could have the car and leave her there,” but Baxter stated “I can’t let you go,” according to the court papers.

The complaint states Baxter left the Walmart parking lot and made a left turn onto Route 250/White Hall Boulevard and then a left turn onto Route 73/Middletown Road, where he entered Harrison County. There, Bridgeport Police Department arrested Baxter, the complaint states.

The complaint doesn’t have any additional information about what happened to the victim after Baxter’s arrest.

Court records show no bail was set for Baxter.
