Publisher Talk

Perhaps you’ve seen the notice we’ve been printing in the daily newspaper that states, “About You is coming.”

I thought I’d go into a little more detail about the new feature in case you hadn’t read about it yet.

Beginning next Sunday, our new weekly About You page will feature your photos and brief descriptions of your personal achievements, work awards, honors, club news, school news and announcements about our men and women serving in the armed forces.

Did you, a family member or someone you work with recently receive an award? Send us a photo and brief description and we’ll include it on the About You page. Maybe your club just had a major achievement. Let us know.

There are a lot of clubs and activities at our area schools. We’d love to hear from you about them. And, we’re always proud to publish a photo of our service men and women along with an update on their status.

All you need to do is email us a clear, sharp photo and a short description of the news. Here’s a hint: remember the five W’s — who, what, when, where and why. Please include a telephone number where we can reach you to verify the information.

Photos cannot be returned, and Polaroid photos cannot be accepted. Submit your information to: aboutyou@timeswv.com.

We’re also excited to be bringing back a program that was once quite popular. For many years, the Times West Virginian offered a program which allowed everyone in the area to designate their favorite retailers, professionals, food and dining spots, locations and more.

We thought this year would be the perfect time to bring it back and make it bigger and better than ever. So, say hello to the new Times West Virginian Readers’ Choice Awards.

This program is the very best way you can recognize the people and places that make our communities in this area truly a special place. And we want to make sure the awards will be special to the businesses and individuals that receive them.

This is the first phase of the voting process, nominating your favorites in each of 132 categories. We realize there are so many great businesses, places and people in our area that it’s often hard to choose just one in each category.

Nominations are now open on our web site, TimesWV.com/ReadersChoice.

You can enter once per day and you must submit nominations in at least 50 percent of the categories to validate your ballot and be eligible for the drawing for a $100 gas card. The nominations phase will end at midnight on Sunday, May 19.

Your top four choices receiving the most nominations in each category will then be included in the phase two final voting which will be from Friday, June 14 through Sunday, June 30, 2019.

Then, get ready for when we announce all the Times West Virginian Readers’ Choice Awards top favorites in a very special awards party which will take place at the Robert H. Mollohan Center on Thursday, July 18.
