The Fairmont Little League team advanced to the next round of the West Virginia State 9-11 Baseball tournament in Shinnston after shutting out District 3 opponent Boone Northern, 10-0, on Saturday. The team will next play District 4’s Bistate today at 5:30 p.m.

District 2’s Chapmanville defeated District 4’s Central Greenbrier to advance, while District 1’s Barboursville also moves on after defeating District 8’s Summersville in the first round. Central Greenbrier and Summersville will face off in the first round of the elimination bracket at 10 a.m. today, while District 5 team Bridgeport — who fell to Bistate — and Boone Northern will also face off in the elimination bracket today at 12:30 p.m.

The winner of the state tournament will advance to the Tournament of State Champions in Greenville, North Carolina from July 26-31.
