FAIRMONT — Fairmont Senior’s Zyon Dobbs took to Twitter on Tuesday night to announce the next chapter in what has been a decorated basketball career.
Tweeting “New Beginnings #Go Dukes” on his account, Dobbs officially announced his commitment to James Madison University, a Division I program in the Colonial Athletic Conference.
The commitment caps a recruiting process for Dobbs in which he was offered scholarships by several Division I programs after an extremely accomplished high school career at Fairmont Senior.
Dobbs capped his FSHS career with a superb senior campaign in which he averaged 16.8 points, 6.2 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals as the Polar Bears’ point guard. The season earned him his third-straight appearance on the Class AA All-State First Team by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Dobbs, who finishes his high school career with over 1,000 career points and 500 career assists, won two Class AA state titles and started four Class AA state title games in his career, with the latter feat being an all-time boys’ basketball state record.
Dobbs, who joins a James Madison squad that went 14-19 this season, including 6-12 in conference play, will suit up once more as a member of Fairmont Senior when he plays in the North-South All-Star Classic on Friday in Charleston.
