Fairmont Senior starts season at 4-0

Fairmont Senior went 4-0 over the weekend in its season debut at the Roane County Duals, with the Polar Bears picking up wins over Greenbrier West, Liberty (Harrison), Poca and Calhoun County.

Four Fairmont Senior wrestlers finished first overall in the duals for their respective weight class, with Marko Tarley (113 pounds), Mikey Jones (132 pounds), Angelo Manzo (145 pounds) and Nicky Scott (170 pounds) all taking first place finishes with 5-0 records.

Tanner Hoskinson (145 pounds) also finished with a 5-0 mark en route to a third-place finish for his weight class.

Another five FSHS wrestlers finished with 4-1 in Dominic Armistead (106 pounds), Kolbie Hamilton (120 pounds), Tyler Harrison (126 pounds), Germaine Lewis (182 pounds) and Iain Campbell (285 pounds). Hamilton, Harrison and Lewis finished runners-up in their respective classes.

The Polar Bears’ Ryan Bohn (138 pounds), Michael Kruzel (152 pounds), Zach Anderson (160 pounds) and Bralyn Michael (220 pounds) also finished with a winning record for the duals, with each posting a 3-2 mark.


Beaty’s game winner lifts Huskies over Frankfort

North Marion’s Kennedy Beaty hit a game-winning 3-pointer with two seconds remaining to lift the Lady Huskies to a 67-66 overtime victory against Frankfort on the road on Saturday.

The victory was the No. 2-ranked Huskies’ second straight over an AP preseason Top 10 opponent, with NMHS defeating No. 1 Fairmont Senior on Thursday before downing the No. 9 Falcons on Saturday.

Karlie Denham led North Marion with 18 points and Taylor Buonamici was right behind her with 17 points. Katlyn Carson also scored in double digits with 14 points.

Freshman forward Olivia Toland added another eight points, while Beaty chipped in seven off the bench.

Maria Perdew scored a team-high 23 points to go with 11 rebounds for Frankfort.

North Marion (3-0) will return to action on Thursday when it hosts in-county foe East Fairmont (2-2).
