For the second straight day, Kyle Allard led off a game with a home run for Fairmont American Legion Post 17 Friday at the Beast of the East tournament.

Allard also picked up a pitching win in relief as Post 17 beat the Georgia Eagles, 6-5, on Aaron Ford’s game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh. In that inning, Tom Alvaro singled, advanced to second on Preston Musgrave’s sacrifice bunt before scoring on Ford’s hit.

Allard finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle after going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Musgrave collected two hits and one RBI, while Ford singled with two RBI and Drew Retton singled, scored and drove in one run. Alex Slusser, Matt Lieving and Alvaro all had one hit.

Jason Gallagher started and worked 4 1/3 innings before Preston Musgrave threw the next 1 2/3 innings. Both combined for nine walks. Allard pitched a scoreless seventh for the win.

In the second game, Post 17 fell to the BB Rooners of Youngstown (Ohio) by a 13-5 margin. Slusser took the loss as he and Alvaro each threw three innings.

All five of Post 17’s runs came in the fourth inning. Slusser and Retton each had two hits, including a double, one run and one RBI. Alvaro was 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI and Musgrave singled home a run. Ford doubled and scored, Joey Buonaiuto singled and scored, and Allard added a single.

“We’re seeing a lot of good baseball teams, and this is one of the best tournaments in the country,” head coach Ken Beerbower said. “There’s a lot of college and pro scouts here. Plus, we’re competing with everyone we play.”

Post 17 (12-5) finishes pool play today with two more games against the Delaware Blue Rocks at 1 p.m. and the Maryland Monarchs at 3:30 p.m.
