Local powerlifter Matt McCase and his promotion company Premier Promotions will be holding the first annual Summerfest deadlift/bench press weightlifting competition on Sunday at East Marion Park.

The competition will start at noon in Pavilion 1 at the park and will likely be over around 3 p.m., McCase said. There will also be a picnic following with free hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks.

“We are going to try and make this an annual thing,” McCase said. “We are going to have a lot of local guys there and some people coming from out of state.”

Lifters from Ohio and Pennsylvania are expected to be at the event, according to McCase.

McCase, who has held meets all over the country, said some of the local lifters in the competition will be Mac DeRiggi, Chris Cook and Robert McCoy.

The meet is sanctioned by the United States Power Lifting Federation.

“We have had a really good turnout so far,” McCase said. “It has been one of the better local meets that I have had. I have had about 12 meets this year already.”

Admission to the public will be $5, but McCase said that anyone who wants to participate can show up and pay the entry fee of $45 on Sunday.

McCase also offered his assistance to any local lifters who are interested in entering meets around the country. He said that prospective lifters can contact him at mccase@yahoo.com or visit www.uspf.com.
