West Fairmont’s golf team needed two extra playoff holes to shake East Fairmont during a match between all three Marion County schools.

East and West finished the regulation nine holes with identical 152 scores. North finished with a 173.

West took the second playoff hole with a 17 compared to East’s 18.

The Bears’ Mark Gardner was the medalist with a 34. Matt McClelland shot a 35, Tyler Merrifield a 41 and Brad Dodrill a 42.

East was paced by Jess Ferrell and Wyatt Michael, each shooting a 37. Jacob Hawkins and Eric Morris both shot a 39.

North Marion was led by Ryan Moore (38), D.J. Menas (43), Chris Powell (44) and Michael Toth (48).

West Fairmont 2, Morgantown 1

FAIRMONT — West Fairmont’s fourth-rated girls’ soccer team rallied past No. 15 Morgantown, 2-1, at East-West Stadium Tuesday night.

After the Mohigans took a 1-0 advantage, Polar Bear sophomore Wittlee Retton answered with two goals to provide the final result in a North Central Athletic Conference showdown.

Goalkeeper Alex Mascaro made four saves in the win while West managed 12 shots on goal.

The Polar Bears improved to 7-1-1 overall and 3-0 in the NCAC as they travel to play RCB at 5:30 p.m. today.

North Marion 2, Philip Barbour 2

RACHEL — In a seesaw battle, North Marion and Philip Barbour played to a 2-2 tie Monday night in girls soccer action.

Mariah Byard scored a goal and assisted on Tiffany Nicholson’s goal to provide the Huskies’ offense after falling behind by scores of 1-0 and 2-1.

North Marion (5-4-1) hosts Preston at 6 p.m. today.

Freshman Football

RACHEL — Jamie Allard threw for 124 yards and one TD and added an 8-yard scoring run to lead West’s freshman team past North Marion, 14-7, Wednesday.

Marcus Jacquez had 99 receiving yards with a touchdown, and intercepted a pass on defense. Travis Orton caught a 25-yard pass, also.

West (3-0) plays at RCB at 6 p.m. next Thursday.
