West Virginia University has two players on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List for the 2006 football season.

They are linebacker Kevin “Boo” McLee and defensive back Eric Wicks.

In all, 52 outstanding performers from throughout the country are named on the list announced Thursday.

The award is presented annually by the Football Writers Association of America to college football’s best defensive player.

Sponsoring the Bronko Nagurski Trophy is the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The FWAA will select the winner on Dec. 4 from among five finalists.

McLee, 6-1, 255-pound senior from Uniontown, Pa., was last year’s second-leading WVU tackler with 78. He had seven tackles for losses, broke up five passes, forced a fumble and recovered one.

Wicks, 6-1, 205-pound senior from Pittsburgh, ranked fifth with 61 tackles. His total included three sacks. He forced four fumbles and recovered one.

Both made the all-Big East team in 2006 as the Mountaineers posted an 11-1 record and finished No. 5 in the major polls.

Only four other standouts from Big East schools are listed.

Those include linebacker H.B. Blades and defensive back Darrelle Revis of Pitt, defensive back Courtney Greene of Rutgers, and linebacker Stephen Nicholas of South Florida.
