CHARLESTON — On Friday, Fairmont Senior and North Marion completed Round 1 of the Capital City Classic high school golf tournament, held at the Edgewood Country Club.

The Polar Bears finished with a plus-33 on the day to finished fifth behind George Washington’s “A” team, Hurricane, Shady Spring, and Cabell Midland’s “A” team. North Marion finished at No. 14 with a plus-51.

Clark Craig led the way for Marion County athletes, finishing individually tied for third with Hurricane’s Sam White. Craig shot a 75, finishing four-over, to slot behind titleist Todd Duncan — from Shady Spring — and George Washington’s Joseph Kalaskey.

Also for the Polar Bears, Gannon Satterfield shot an 84 to tie at No. 36 with Charleston Catholic’s Evan Sayre, while Zack Morgan — shooting 86 — tied for 38 with G. W.’s Jake Kalaskey and Linsley’s Aiden Grubler.

Michale Harris led the Huskies, shooting 77 en route to a sixth-place tie with George Washington’s Colton Gillispie, and Grafton’s Caden Moore.

Also for North Marion, Dylan Runner finished tied at 49 — shooting 90 — with Cabell Midland’s Siggi Olafsson and Charleston Catholic’s Bryce Helmick. Huskies’ Rylan Gump shot a 97 to finish tied for 66 with Parkersburg South’s Jared Smith, Linsley’s Ryan Dembiczak, and Captial’s Brooklyn Carpenter, while Bryce Rhoades finished tied for 70 with Fairmont Senior’s Gabe Jimmie.

Both Rhoades and Jimmie shot 98, finishing plus-27.

The two teams will play the final match of the high school series on Mdonay at the Parkersburg Country Club in Vienna.
